Newcastle Airport is inviting communities across the Hunter, Central Coast and Mid North Coast to turn the camera on the place they call home, launching a new photography competition to celebrate World Photography Day and showcase the region through the eyes of the people who know it best.
Coinciding with World Photography Week and this year's global theme of "Home", the Show the World Our Home competition invites photographers of all ages to capture the people, places and experiences that make our region home.
Newcastle Airport CEO Linc Horton said the competition celebrated the Airport's role connecting the Hunter with the world. "Every day we welcome visitors to our region, but nobody tells the story of the Hunter better than the people who call it home," Mr Horton said.
"As the gateway to a catchment of almost 1.4 million people, we're inviting our communities to show the world what makes this region so special.
"Home means something different to everyone. It could be a whale breaching off our coastline, a surf at Nobbys before work, a vineyard at sunset cheering from the sidelines on a Saturday morning or going wild at a Knight’s match or even that secret place only locals know about.
"Some of the most powerful tourism images are captured by the people who experience our region every day. This competition is about celebrating those authentic stories while creating a visual legacy that showcases our region to visitors for years to come.
“There’s also something special about coming home and we want these images to capture that feeling; so when people return through our terminal, they see a familiar place or moment, smile and instantly know they’re home.”
The competition is open to photographs captured across Newcastle Airport’s broader region, from the Central Coast and Hunter through to Coffs Harbour.
Photographers can enter across five categories - Junior, Youth, Community, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, and Aviation, with each category winner receiving a $500 Newcastle Airport travel voucher. Shortlisted photographs will also go into the running for the People’s Choice Award, with another $500 travel voucher up for grabs.
Winning and shortlisted images will have the opportunity to be displayed throughout Newcastle Airport, featured across the Airport's digital and social media channels, and showcased in a dedicated terminal exhibition celebrating the beauty and diversity of the Hunter.
Entries are now open and close at 11.59pm on Sunday 18 October 2026. Finalists will be announced in early November, with People’s Choice voting open from 2-15 November and all winners announced on Thursday 19 November 2026.
