The countdown is on! In just four months, Newcastle Airport will officially become an international gateway, connecting the Hunter Region to the world. The recent installation of our first-ever aerobridge is just one of many exciting developments. That’s 31-tonnes, 20-meters-long of connectivity and convenience allowing passengers to board and disembark directly from the terminal, protected from the elements, and with greater accessibility for all.
“This aerobridge is a physical exclamation point pointing to exciting times of growth ahead,” said Interim CEO Andrew Warrender.
Our latest terminal updates include upgraded baggage systems, improved access and stunning terminal finishes including modern bathrooms and a new Arrivals Cafe– all designed to enhance your travel experience.
As we count down to becoming an international gateway, we're putting the finishing touches on our terminal. Current works show what you can look forward to:
-
Faster Baggage Handling: Our new baggage infrastructure is designed to support Code E and Code C aircraft, making international travel smoother and more efficient for you. That’s right, that’s faster and more efficient handling for international flights.
-
Stunning Terminal Finishes: Enjoy polished concrete floors on the ground floor and comfortable carpeting on the upper level. Plus, upgraded bathrooms and amenities will make your travel experience even more enjoyable.
-
Arrivals Café: With the final fit out happening now, stay tuned for exciting announcements about our new food and beverage offerings! We can’t wait to share them with you.
-
Enhanced Safety: A new full sprinkler fire system will ensure your safety in both the new and existing terminal buildings.
-
Beautiful Landscaping: Our new landscaped forecourt will welcome you to the airport in style.
-
Improved Access: Linemarking and landscaping of Willliamtown Drive will make it easier to drop off or pick up passengers and access our Premium Undercover Car Park.
-
Convenient Car Rentals: A brand-new car rental building is on its way, making it simpler than ever to rent a car and start your journey.
Like they say, as we prepare for landing, please ensure your seatback is upright, your tray table is stowed, your seatbelt is securely fastened– and keep your eyes on the future. Flying from Newcastle means getting more time back in your day– whether it’s skipping the M1 or spending less time in lines.
In years to come, our new international terminal will be remembered as the catalyst that propelled Newcastle and the Hunter Region onto the international stage, creating more travel options, new opportunities and more jobs.
