With winter days feeling shorter and the evenings drawing in, there’s never been a better time to look west – where the sun lingers longer and sets over the ocean in spectacular style.

From 8 September, Perth will be closer than ever, with direct flights to the golden coastline of WA with Qantas route. Three flights a week Friday, Sunday and Monday, with no stopovers and no Sydney slog.

Facing the Indian Ocean, Perth’s west-facing beaches and skyline make it one of the best places in the country to farewell the day. Here are a few spots to time your visit around that magic golden hour:

Cottesloe Beach: Affectionately known as “Cott,” this beloved Perth icon is known for its heritage pavilion, terraced lawns and shady Norfolk pines. Go for a dip, grab fish and chips from one of the nearby cafes or restaurants, and stretch out for a picnic on the grassy foreshore. Cottesloe sunsets are so loved, they even have their own Instagram page!

Zig Zag Scenic Drive, Gooseberry Hill National Park: Tucked up in the Perth Hills, this one-way winding road offers breathtaking views across the Swan Coastal Plain. As the sun sets, watch the city light up below you.

Rottnest Island: Hop over to Rottnest Island for a sunset you'll never forget. Painted skies, pristine coral-fringed beaches and a few curious quokkas for company – what more could you want?

The Marina, Mindarie: A little north of Perth, The Marina at Mindarie blends Mediterranean vibes with a laid-back WA twist. Wander the boardwalk, enjoy waterfront dining, or kick back on the lawn as the sun dips behind moored yachts and calm waters.
