Providing the best possible experience for our passengers is more than just a commitment for our employees – it’s in our DNA. This runs through everything we do and the way in which we do it, from the people we recruit to the roles we provide – everything comes back to making our passengers' journeys as stress-free as possible.

Dr Peter Cock, CEO

Newcastle Airport will achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by no later than 2030 for our scope 1 and 2 emissions.

Sustainability is at the core of our business operations and infrastructure developments. As a regional transport hub, we maintain the highest standards of environmental management and are proud of our achievements so far.

We are members of the Sustainability Advantage program, delivered by the NSW Government's Office of Environment and Heritage. The program aims to work with businesses to improve their performance in the areas of energy, water usage and waste reduction.

We have a continued focus and commitment to reducing the airport’s environmental footprint. We have implemented a broad range of systems and policies to minimise the impact of airport operations and expansion.

Our employees are crucial to the delivery of a seamless passenger experience and the overall success of our airport. We take time to invest in our people, developing trusted relationships to ensure all employees always act with integrity, are accountable for their actions and are driven to achieving the best results for our region. We aim to do things a little differently from other airports and are proud to serve our passengers with professionalism and a genuine passion for exceptional customer service.

We support local businesses and charitable endeavours wherever we can. Our approach to community engagement focuses on four main pillars - community, sport, business and tourism. We support events and activities across these pillars, including Newcastle Jets A-league, Nelson Bay Junior Rugby League Football Club, Surfest Women’s Crowdfunding, Koala Sanctuary Port Stephens, Flight without Fear Program, Make A Wish Australia, Starlight Foundation, Smaller and Smarter Cities Symposium and Love Seafood Tastes Port Stephens.

We are passionate about the Hunter Region, and we actively seek opportunities to contribute to its long-term growth and prosperity. Our mission is to be the airport the region deserves, and we have a bold vision for our region. We take active steps to bring our local community together. The airport’s annual Leadership Forum connects our business and community leaders, enabling discussion on how to shape the region’s future.

We work closely with the local indigenous community; whose history stretches back more than 50,000 years. We respect the traditional lands of the Worimi people and involve local elders in all levels of our business activities. Newcastle Airport, Astra Aerolab and adjoining RAAF Base Williamtown all sit on the traditional lands of the Worimi people. We acknowledge and celebrate their culture and historical links to the land.

Newcastle Airport is jointly owned by Port Stephens Council and the City of Newcastle.

We comply with all relevant ASX principles and provide our shareholders with timely and equal access to information related to the company. Our Code of Conduct is designed to assist in making ethical business decisions and applies to all Board Members, Executive Managers, Employees and Volunteers.

We are well positioned to implement a robust sustainability framework tailored to the needs of the Airport, our customers and our local community.

Newcastle Airport is developing a Sustainability Strategy that will allow us to align to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and Global Reporting Initiative Standards. We’re committed to developing measurable and achievable sustainability goals that reflect our ongoing commitment to meeting our region’s environmental, social and economic challenges.

Our Sustainability Strategy will be integrated into the goals and milestones set within Newcastle Airport’s 2036 Master Plan, ensuring a clear focus on sustainability.

We encourage you to read our Environment and Sustainability policy, and please contact us for any further information.

The safety, health and wellbeing of all our employees, volunteers, tenants, contractors and customers is paramount to our success as an airport.

We have a ‘zero harm’ safety culture, with a goal to achieving ‘zero’ incidents, injuries and illnesses.

Our airport is committed to providing the highest possible safety standards for employees, airport visitors and the community we operate in. We have robust risk management strategies in place to prevent safety related incidents and control identified hazards.

We are equally focussed on creating a mentally healthy workplace, a core focus of our Health & Wellbeing program. Newcastle Airport are a proud ambassador for Mentally Healthy Workplaces for Safework NSW and provide a range of services and initiatives to support our employees.
